Gin Strawberry Smash
Game, Set and Match
to this Wimbledon inspired riff on the contemporary classic
Gin Basil Smash
Strawberries and Wimbledon go hand in hand. As soon as the strawberry season is in then tennis is on the tellybox and us Brits are glued to our screens. And what could be more fitting for watching Wimbledon than with a chilled gin in hand? Even better a gin that features strawberries? look no further than the Gin Strawberry Smash.
Substituting basil in the contemporary classic Gin Basil Smash with the glistening red summer fruits and lime for the traditional lemon juice creates a real taste of summer in your glass.
Tip: Normally I would suggest a cocktail gin. But for the Gin Strawberry Smash, you can use your best strawberry infused gin. I used Puerto de Indias Strawberry. For my review of this gin click here.
Glass:
Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
60ml / 2oz strawberry infused gin
15ml / .5oz freshly squeezed lime juice
15 ml / .5oz simple syrup
10-12 small sweet strawberries
Instructions:
Muddle the strawberries in a shaker with the lime juice. Really mash them up to get maximum flavour.
You may want to blitz the strawberries in a mini electric processor first to help break them up. Unless you are feeling masochistic of course. Then go ahead with the muddling old school style. It’s a great way to exorcise any frustrations of the day.
Add the gin and simple syrup to the shaker.
Add ice and shake vigorously.
Strain through a fine sieve into a highball glass filled with ice.
Garnish:
Black mint and strawberries
